Nalbinding wrist warmers and sampler
Trying out a new technique on simple Oslo stitch wrist warmers. The hat became a stitch sampler.
Started: 6th October 2024
Finished:
Pattern
Not really a pattern. Using Oslo stitch as a continuous spiral and just making sure they fit.
Wrist warmers: Start with 20 stitch chain (number depends heavily on personal thumb size!), join then continue to work in a spiral for 6 rows.
Hat/sampler: Start with circular beginning from Klassen-Buttner, p. 88. Just a short Oslo stitch chain joined, then increasing for crown. Row 1 every stitch, row 2, 1 stitch then inc in next. row 3, 2 sts then inc in next. etc.
Materials
Álafosslopi - chunky wool from Iceland.
- Wrist warmers: Colour 0008 - greyish blue.
- Hat/sampler: Colour 1232 - greenish blue.
Nålbinding needle.
Notes
Really simple wrist warmers to get used to working Oslo stitch continuously. Finding it really satisfying. Finished the pair - 14/10/2024. Washing has softened them nicely. Remember in future nalbinding isn't very stretchy. These are a little tight to get over my hand, but a nice close fit once they are on.
Carrying on to make a matching hat. Hat didn't work out - it was too narrow - so has become a sampler with Oslo stitch, York stitch, Korgen stitch and Mammen stitch. I need to practice increases in nalbinding!
