Clare's Crafts
Olney Handkerchief
Started: 1st February 1999
Finished: 1st July 2000
Pattern
Stott, Visual Introduction to Bucks Point Lace
Materials
49 pairs Madeira tanne 50, white
3 pairs gimp - Anchor coton perle, 8, white. (A less shiny gimp would have been better)
Notes
First use of new bobbin winder - an enormous help!
Took ages deciding how to start as no suggestions in book. (2015 - now I have a bit more experience I can see that I should have started by the corner)
Corner - difficult, particularly as pricking doesn't match diagrams exactly.
4/9/99 - 2nd corner went much more smoothly helped by being able to concentrate on it over the Bank Holiday. Corner used all my stock of bobbins except one! (plastic included...)
27/9/99 - now half way round!
2/4/00 - starting work on this once more after a 4 month break.
By the time I finished I was getting the hang of it much more!
31/12/00 - finally sewed edging onto a piece of fine cotton lawn. Used 3-corner punch stitch from Cook's Practical Skills in Bobbin Lace. Very fiddly, but firm and looks effective.
